The Friends of Tothill Park web site

Tothill Park is a green oasis of some 6.73 hectares in the St Judes area of Plymouth. Generally bounded on the north and east by Lanhydrock Road, Cleveland Road and the railway line to the south and Egerton Crescent to the west, it provides a wealth of facilities for both local residents and the wider Plymouth population - it is a vital part of the community. The friends of Tothill Park is a group of local volunteers who share a common interest in revitalising the park and bringing it into the 21st century.

Our aims are:

  • Regenerate the park and the surrounding facilities.
  • Provide a safe environment where users may exercise, socialise or take time out to relax.
  • Provide a park and facilities for all members of the community regardless of race, gender, age, religion or disability.
  • Explore means of funding to maintain and improve the park.
  • Improve the park environment through re-planting whilst encouraging local wildlife.

We are always looking for other people to join us in making Tothill Park a more enjoyable place. Please click on Help the Group in the How To menu on the left to find out some of the many ways in which you can contribute.

 Mount Gould Neighbourhood Meeting

“Have your say”

The latest meeting was held in the Mount Gould Local Care Centre on Thurs 28 July 2011.

In attendance were Local Councillors, Mary Aspinall, Jean Nelder and Eddie Rennie, Neighbourhood Liaison Officer, Nick McMahon and the meeting was chaired by PCSO Tracy Weston with a cross section of local residents.

Items discussed were litter and fly tipping, and bins being left out on non-collection days, especially in the rear service lanes. The contact number to report instances of the above is to 01752 304147, PCC Public Protection.

The police and PCSO’s have left “Priority Cards” in various locations around the area and are urging residents to report incidents immediately.

We all love complaining but never do anything to help with a solution. We need to remember that

“if it is not reported then it never happened.”

Tothill Park is a prime example of where residents can help. The new children’s play area is a very popular addition to the park, but already there have been instances of vandalism by mindless yobs, whose sole intention is to ruin facilities for everyone else.

If we want to keep our area a pleasant place to live, then instances of

• Criminal Damage

• Anti Social Behaviour

• Littering

• Dog Fouling

• Graffiti

need to be reported immediately so that the authorities can act.

The next meeting is provisionally booked for Thurs 27 Oct 2011.

On Sat 14th Jan 2012 @ 15:53 Pat replied with: Richard, our next meeting is scheduled for Weds 8th Feb at 7pm in the Community Cetre

On Mon 07th Nov 2011 @ 11:30 GMT, John said this:

Can you tell me who is responsible for allowing Council vehicles to drive on the playing fields, especially during wet weather. If a player or walker were to twist or break an ankle, who would be held responsible or is it a case of the taxpayer would foot the bill as usual.

On Mon 05th Dec 2011 @ 16:31 Pat replied with: Thanks John, the Parks Dept have been notified and have promised to speak to the drivers. If anyone sees PCC vehicles driving across the grass, please notify Parks on 606034.

On Thu 24th Mar 2011 @ 18:29 GMT, Kevin & Gordana Webster said this:

Despite my attempts to have questions answered from the city council regarding contamination, all efforts failed, though one has to say, with our council this was hardly a surprise to anyone.
Regardless, I would like to first thank “Play England” for their funding, but most of all congratulate and thank the committee of our beloved park for the hard work they have put into securing the funding and after their part in the actual refurbishment of this area. It hasn’t been an easy trip for them, apart from being bombarded with questions and complaints from users of the park, (me included). Without your drive and determination the results would most certainly have remained just a pipe dream. Our park is a credit to the area, clean, secure, adventurous and one my little girl looks forward too each night visiting (after homework that is :-))

On Wed 06th Apr 2011 @ 09:09 Pat replied with: Thank you for your input, it is nice to know that the efforts of the FoTP committee and the Parks Dept are appreciated.
We welcome all input to our website, as it gives us some idea of what park users want, and if they have any ideas or projects that we can pursue.

On Wed 16th Mar 2011 @ 18:32 GMT, Dan said this:

I visited the park on Sunday for the first time this year. What a transformation! I was great to see loads of families in the kids play area -it really transforms the area. Good to see that it is smoke free too.

On Thu 24th Mar 2011 @ 10:25 Pat replied with: Thanks Dan, The children seem to love it, thanks for your comments.

On Sat 26th Feb 2011 @ 16:42 GMT, Maria said this:

just to say I visited the new play park today with my son and was very impressed. It has a good range of play equipment which suits quite a wide age range. It was nice to see the park very busy with loads of kids and parents having a great time together.

On Wed 09th Mar 2011 @ 12:53 Pat replied with: Thanks Maria, it took a while but it is nice to see the children using the park facilities.
